Another “Gold Coast” in Malaysia!
Just how many “Gold Coasts” can one country have? No points for originality here then!
First there was the Sepang Gold Coast and now the Morib Gold Coast that recently got press here in Kuala Lumpur as the next ‘haven’. I’m always interested in the Malaysian waterfront developments so while on the way to Sepang F1 Circuit for the Asian Festival of Speed, I thought I’d pop in for a look!
Much vaunted as a beach haven… what a disappointment!
For starters, the beach front property faces a bulk feed mill just across the main road! If you spend all your time looking out to sea, well fine… but turn around and well you couldn’t have picked a worse view. I didn’t hang around long enough to actually take in the aroma but would imagine it might be rather interesting each morning!
Access to the property is via Banting, a small town SW of Kuala Lumpur but the road is a two-laner so if there’s just one breakdown, you’re going to be in traffic for ages. I found the road a chore for an afternoon let alone doing it to visit your “ideal getaway” property!
So the drive put me off (that’s hard to do) then the feed mill put another nail in it and by the time I got to the Show unit well it was constructed not in a way that I like. Cheap furnishings and cramped living space drove another nail into it. But I think the clincher was having an altar right in the showroom – err that sort of paints the picture of where it’s being pitched!
The nice bits, well there are always nice bits!
1. The sand was actually pretty fine.
2. Morib as a district has a nice feel to it and it is nicely tucked away.
Not doubt one day in the future it will be a bit more of a gold coast but not now!
It’s a pity that the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia is such a shallow coast line. At low tide the water in front of Morib Gold Coast was a scant 3 km walk – if you could be bothered!
But the final nail in the property for me was the “theme park” built right into the middle of a U-shaped condo’ block! Don’t know about you but my idea of an ideal beach getaway is not listening to screaming kids in a water theme park just in front of your lounge room!
So it puzzles me as to why so many foreigners would purchase it?
There was a flag placed in the sand of each nationality that has supposedly purchased a magnificent piece of paradise and my eye was drawn to the tattered flag of Papua New Guinea! Where in the world did they find that one?
Maybe they’ve bought it sight unseen and mind you, I didn’t see any when I was there!
So the Sepang Palms Development still leads “the best of” series. Its got a nice scenic drive in, sea food restaurants all around it and is actually tastefully done i.e. no feed mill in sight! Check it out for a comparison…
